As time went on, cuckoo clocks became an industrialized industry with as many as 14,000 people employed to make them by the 1800’s, again in Germany. The most well known clocks were from the Black Forest area, and became – obviously – Black Forest Cuckoo clocks. Today you can find these historic clocks on the auction block for hundreds of dollars! Time to check out your basement and dust off that old cuckoo clock! Beer cans! – Not number 2, but I gotta put them here anyway! Beer cans are a hot collectible and there is a fascinating array of choices and styles out there. Cone top cans got their start in 1935 shortly after prohibition had ended. Breweries designed their own labels and then purchased the cans from manufacturing companies. Today, cone top cans in good condition can fetch anywhere from several dollars on up. Flat top beer cans are also very popular. Several collections on EBAY are listed for several hundred dollars. The most expensive one we have seen is a Schlitz flat top copper can from 1937, current bid on EBAY over $1000! Poker chips – Unless you have been in a cave for the last couple years, you know that the Texas Hold’em rage is sweeping the world. Channel surf on any given night and you are sure to come across a televised poker tournament, where a bunch of stressed out players eye each other down and make their mothers proud as the gamble for huge stakes. If you want to start your own home game you have to have the right equipment – starting with the chips. There are many types to choose from. The most important factor is the weight, the heavier the chip, the better the quality. There are also authentic clay chips, chips with clay inserts and composite chips. Sets come in fancy cases complete with dealer buttons and decks of cards. An array of colors adds to the festivity. Start your collection now and show your friends who the poker master really is.
Star Wars stuff – Sure to be around for generations to come, this may be the best area of investment. The Star Wars movies sparked a collecting frenzy unlike any other and prices have been driven up for all things Star Wars. Recently on the auction block an original “Master Replica – Anakin Light saber” fetched over $350!! Equally intriguing (read, a little nuts!) a Princess Leia Bikini Star Wars costume went for over $300! If you are at all interested in the Star Wars phenomenon, check out the collectibles that are available. A good way to get involved and meet like minded people…and who knows, you might not have to worry about what to wear for Halloween next year!
