"My First Pair of Ballet Shoes"
When did you get your first pair of ballet shoes
or slippers???
I have been dancing for years, but the beginning
of my dancing career still holds a special place for me. You see,
when I first started taking ballet lessons we were very poor. It
was at a community center, and we were able to take the lessons for
free, but I was still too broke to afford ballet shoes. I did a pretty
good job in socks, but without ballet dance shoes I felt like I
stuck out. Then one day, disaster struck.
Although ballet shoes do not provide all that much
protection, they are still much better than socks. They can grip
the ground to some degree and keep you from falling. Dancing in
the socks, it was only a matter of time before something happened
and I had a fall. But when I fell, I fell hard.
I fell so hard, as a matter of fact, that I broke my leg. No more
ballet dancing for me for several weeks! I was devastated, and my
mom was unhappy too. That fall meant that I could not go to our class's
performance. While the rest of the class got to dance, I was stuck
hobbling around on crutches. I was furious and depressed.
When I finally was well enough to dance again, however, I got right
back into it. Even though I had no ballet shoes, I did not let that
stop me. I danced twice as hard as before, and soon got my skills
as a dancer back. Soon, I was twirling around with the best of them.
I still remember the greatest thrill of that year.
On the eve of my first performance, my mom presented me with a pair
of ballet shoes. These were no ordinary discount ballet shoes. They
were ballet pointe shoes, and some of the best ones that I had ever
seen. These were true professional quality shoes, shoes which she
had been saving every penny for for the past several months. She
was so proud of me, and I was so happy to get them. I still have
those ballet shoes to this day, although of course they no longer
fit my feet. I treasure them more than anything else. The day that
I got those ballet shoes was one of the best days of my life, and
the day that I decided I would go on to make a career as a dancer.
I have never regretted that decision.
